The X-ray machines (either at the checkpoint or the ones in-line with the baggage handling system) will not damage laptops nor it's contents.
I've seen them by the thousands go through the X-ray machines.

The x-ray won't hurt your laptop at all. I take mine all the time. What you need to make sure to do is lock your laptop in the hotel room safe or keep it with you so it won't be stolen.

It will be okay. Thousands of laptops go through airport security everyday and they are all fine.
