The old series stopped at episode 92, just implying that the man shown at the end of the episode is Gon's father. Since the manga has progressed further than where it was when the 1999 version was made (it ended at volume 18 of the manga; now the manga has 30 volumes), there is a high chance that the 2011 version of the anime will cover more chapters of the manga and you will get to see Gon meeting Jin (though that doesn't happen right after Greed Island game).
