Can you help me check my grammar homework?

We are studying pronouns. Please tell me if these sentences are proper. Thank you!

"Everyone brought their notebook to class today."

Would it be "their" or "his or her"?

"My social studies book has a stain of its cover."

Thank you so much for the help :)

Update:

The "of" is a typo. I meant "on". Sorry.

Update 2:

The "of" is a typo. I meant "on". Sorry.

"Everyone brought their notebook to class today."

Incorrect. Correct is: "his or her." Everyone is singular. Yes, taken together there are multiple students, but the word and its construction (every ONE) is definitely singular. Also, in this construction "notebook" is singular. One notebook. One student for one notebook. If it were just one notebook for everyone, that'd mean that all the students owned that same single notebook.

"My social studies book has a stain of its cover."

Correct. It's one book, so it is "its." And it wouldn't be "it's"--that would mean "it is." You wouldn't say, "My book has a stain on it is cover."

    Hope that helps.

Are there any discounts or earnings going on for your retailer or for your catalogue right now? Yes or No? Sure If yes, then which gadgets are on sale or have a reduction? The little one Toy store object is discounted. The piano toy may be very cute, nevertheless it’s so steeply-priced. For mother, the discounted piano toy is excellent. It's only twenty greenbacks! That could be a lovely low rate! Which of the gadgets you're promoting is (are) your favorite(s)? And why? I want to sell a purse. It’s so adorable. This season, women have to this kind of handbag. Females need to be adorned. It is rather trendy. This bag could be very most important to their fashion.

Notebook should be notebooks because the subject is plural.

The rest is fine because you said of was a typo.

Everyone is a singular pronoun. Should be "his or her."

Second sentence is correct. "Its" is a neuter, possessive pronoun. It's is a contraction for it is or it has.

EDIT: I don't know why everyone is saying that the first sentence should be written with "their." That is totally wrong. Everyone is an indefinite, singular pronoun. "Their" is used colloquially, but "everyone...their" do not match in writing.

The general rule for pronouns is that they must agree in number and in gender. Everyone is singular, and their is plural. Clearly, these do not match.

It is actually their notebooks, because I assume each has their own, not one collective.

The second one is correct, except it's ON its cover.

"Their" is more appropriate than "his" or "her". So, let it be...

And your second sentence would be:

"My social studies book has a stain ON its cover."

Just cross-check with someone else to confirm if this is right.

    You're welcome... :)
