How to start a career on container ships (Canada)?

I'm aware that in the USA you need a Z-card, but one of the requirements of obtaining one is that you need to be an American citizen. That doesn't apply to me, so how do I go about obtaining the necessary documents to work on container ships as a Canadian citizen?
