Laundry Soap Recipe question?
I started making my own household product recipes about a month ago. Not to be cheap (that part was the bonus!) but because it's something I have wanted to try for some time now.
And I am having a blast!
However I do have a question for those that make their own laundry detergent.
On the Duggars website (if you're into homemade recipes then hopefully you've come across their recipes & know what I'm talking about) they have recipes for both powdered and liquid detergents.
Both recipes call for the same amount of ingredients, except for the water part of course. However the powdered recipe makes fewer laundry loads than the liquid one.
Can someone please explain why?
I'm new to this homemade recipe stuff & any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)
So far I now make my own All Purpose Household Cleaner as well as a Carpet Steam Cleaning Formula and am totally hooked! Please share ;)
Here's the site, soap recipes are about half way down.

I have been making my own laundry soap for a couple years now.
A few of the recipe I made was basically the same as the one on that website.
I can't tell you why the powdered is less loads than the liquid, but I can tell you a recipe I like much better:
Use everything, but add 1/3 Zote bar soap:

Zote can be bought at Kmart, Big Lots, & Hispanic stores--it's made in Mexico. It only costs about $1.20 per bar.
I like Zote a ton better than Fels or castile or Ivory. It has optical brighteners which makes whites much whiter & colours more vibrant than the other soaps. It also gets the stains out much better than the other soaps.
I don't even bother with making liquid detergent--too much hassle & the clumps don't dissolve well.
I often grate the Zote & use it w/o the other stuff & it works just fine.
Did you know you can make washing soda--soda ash--by baking the baking soda in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes, stirring often?
I use one tablespoon of the laundry powder per full washload.
Zote also works for HE washers as it is low-sudsing.
If you have any ??, you can e-mail me.

Oh, yeah, I make shampoo for my carpet cleaner by putting a tablespoon full of the grated Zote into a thick-plastic bottle with a lid & fill the bottle with about a cup full of hot water & let sit overnight--or shake if you are in a hurry--to dissolve the Zote. I use to buy the store bought stuff but I think the Zote works SOOO much better!
Heck, I use Zote to clean the commode & sink & tub!

Including water to anything is going to make is look like there is extra. With the powder form you utilize less and the liquid style you use more. Incidentally I made the dugger cleaning soap earlier than and didnt like it. Ended up trashing about 3 gallons of it.

Adding water to anything is going to make is seem like there is more. With the powder kind you use less and the liquid kind you use more. By the way I made the dugger soap before and didnt like it. Ended up trashing about 3 gallons of it.
