Why does my dog roll in dead animals and garbage?

I don't know why he does this. He will also try to roll in my hair when I am on the floor playing with him...even right after I clean my hair with soap. He is a yellow lab/retriever mix.

For a dog, it is the same as you applying perfume or cologne.

Their sense of smell is very different and intense, and this gives

your dog another way to scent himself.

My Border Collie tried rolling in some dog pop the other day. Both our Huskies do it. Xena will roll and walk at the same time, while Zeus just rolls in anything he thinks smells nice. I have caught Xena rolling in a dead bird, yuk.

Because these are things that normal dogs do, and he has the opportunities to do them. Keep him on leash around dead animals and garbage. Don't lay on the floor.

    They loveeee it!

Dead animal and cow sh*t smells like the finest perfume and cologne to a dog.

Source(s): Mine have done it, a lot. We have cows next door lol

Because anything a dog loves it thinks is perfume. stinking or their human smells. It's all "french perfume" to them.
