How exactly will the Department of Defense be cut in funding?

Hi. I'm just wondering how expected cuts in Defense Spending will affect people.

Particularly, however, I am really concerned about agencies that have really thrived under the funding of the defense spending. DARPA, for example, has made countless advances in the regenerative sciences(Biomedical, chemical, pharmaceutical, prosthetics, etc..)-----and has also guided the development of increasingly futuristic technology(alpha dog, nanotechnological forms of cover, shielding, and other increasingly self-aware and intelligent combat/medical/field robots to accompany soldiers). Honestly, the sciences are exploding (in terms of knowledge and innovations) under the funding and guidance of DARPA and other defense organizations. Are these really innovative and practical organizations going to get cut? If so, how? Which ones?

I'm really concerned, thanks.

"Part 1 of this report outlines how these across-the-board cuts will work in 2013. Part 2 describes how they will work from 2014 through 2021. As explained below, the process for 2013 is substantially different from that for the ensuing eight years.

Broadly speaking, for 2013 the across-the-board cuts will mean about an 8.4 percent cut in most affected non-defense discretionary programs, a 7.5 percent cut in affected defense programs, an 8.0 percent cut in affected mandatory programs other than Medicare, and a 2.0 percent cut in Medicare provider payments. For 2014 through 2021, the Medicare cut will remain at 2 percent while the percentage cuts in other programs will gradually shrink. These estimates — which are revised from estimates in our December 2, 2011, analysis — take into account new CBO budget projections and the details of the President’s funding requests for 2013.

With one exception, this report is based on estimates from CBO on the dollar cuts from the four program categories outlined above — non-defense discretionary, defense, affected mandatory programs, and Medicare – provided as part of CBO’s March 2012 baseline. The Appendix discusses why we have revised our previous estimates and the ways in which we use or alter CBO’s estimates."

See attached for complete tables of all cuts to defense programs.

The problem is now that military communities are becoming cognizant of the effect on their economies, they are lobbying to mitigate damage. We also need to be mindful that Obama recently advised defense contractors who are required to issue Layoff Notices under the WARN Act NOT to issue said notices (perhaps due to the impact on election voting) and, set aside taxpayer money to pay for legal challenges that will be met by such companies "WARN Act Requirements. As a general rule, the WARN Act requires companies with more than 100 employees to give written notice of a facility closing or mass layoff to the affected employees (and certain governmental offices) at least 60 days prior to the facility closing or layoff. Employees who have worked less than 6 months in the past 12 months and employees who work an average of less than 20 hours a week are excluded from the “more than 100 employees” calculation.

The WARN Act notice regarding a facility closing or layoff focuses on “loss of employment” which is, among other things, termination that is not voluntary, is not retirement, or is not based on “cause.” Determining whether a WARN Act notice is appropriate includes identifying the number of employees to be terminated and their employment or job site location.

Generally, an employer who does not give the required 60-day advance notice is liable to each affected employee for an amount including up to 60 days of back-pay and benefits, as well as civil penalties of up to $500 per day. Not unexpectedly, the statutory and regulatory requirements are more technical, but this is the basic outline."

To preserve purchasing weapons we dont want is the equal as welfare for navy protection contractors. We already have every possible weapon on the plant we ought to attack or protect the U.S. And every person else. In addition to defense cuts, Obama will propose three different primary components to diminish the debt, consistent with a White residence statement: keeping down home spending, curbing wellbeing- care expenses and closing tax loopholes. The administration has launched no small print. Protection Secretary Leon Panetta mentioned the sizes of those offerings can be reduced. However detailed Forces troops, which can be utilized to teach foreign militaries, will expand in size. The brand new process sees a need to counter China's growing impact within the Pacific and slash troops deployments in Afghanistan. I would not to find extra specifics.

DARPA represents about 0.4% of the defense budget. Most of the cuts will probably be reducing civilian staff at the Pentagon, reducing the number of soldiers on active duty, and cuts to buying weapons and equipment.

The US spends nearly half what the rest of the world spends on military and 6 times more than China.

Slash some of that spending to move toward a balanced budget. Haliburton ceases record profits.

What cuts? The US will spend more on the military next year than the previous year. The 'cut' is not spending as much more as they wanted / previously planed to. How is that a 'cut'? That's like saying my company promised a +10% raise but only gave +5% therefore my salary has been cut!

The US currently spends more on Defense than then next 12 countries.

    Combined.

My Error - it's the next 13 Countries.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff have said they want to reorganize the Modern Military into a leaner, faster, more reactive force, able to respond quicker to events as they pop up around the globe. They have put out a budget stating what they need.

The GOP in congress has repeatedly told the Joint Chiefs to STFU, you will take what we give you, mostly because they have huge defense plants in their congressional districts.

Our military get little or no ammo and rubber knives and bayonets, While FEMA, Homeland Security, IRS, EPA, USDA, FDA, all of Obama's ABC troops get the ammo our troops and our embassy guards should have, SCARY SH!T.

We will no longer be spending 350 million dollars a day fighting "wars".

The DOD doesn't need more money, they need to be more careful how they spent the money they get.

If they eliminated wasteful spending, they would have more than enough money.
