So this sounds like a straightforward thing and I have found heaps of pages on the microsoft website that say how to download direct x or where to download direct x. But none actually have a link that downloads it. Please help :/

What version of DirectX is it you want ?
DirectX 9.0c http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmati...
is the one usually required.
