I'm afraid of the future & don't know what I want to do?

My mom and I were just having a discussion and she asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I replied by saying I didn't know; and it's the truth. She gave me such a disapproving and disappointing look it broke my heart. I'm a Junior in High School, and some may say I have plenty of time, but I'm the kind of person that needs to know things a lot before hand. I have not the slightest clue what I want to pursue when my Senior year is over, and just thinking about going to college and being on my own is terrifying. I am a straight A student, taking 2 AP classes, and I have everything sorted out as of right now, but I don't know anything about the future. It used to be fun imagining all the things I would do on my own with my new independence, but now it just seems scary. My interests field is vast & whenever I take a career quiz, I never agree with whatever it gives me.

How did you guys cope with growing up and deciding what you wanted to be when you grew up? Was it hard? What should I do?

When I was in high school, I was president of the drug free club, I LOVED making events, advertising for the school, always having a busy schedule planning, what I should do with the money in my club, etc. And I also think of new ideas like an entrepreneur. And I work at a restaurant, and I love the restaurant industry as well. I'm going to college to work in business marketing. If you love something and you enjoy doing it, then do it. Even if it's knitting underwear, you can have your own business in knitting underwear. Something like that. lol.

I was in a similar situation when I finished high school. I would recommend finding some work until you figure out what it is you like. You could always go to college without a major, but I did that and it felt like a waste of time, but that might just be me. Things will work out, just give it some time, you're smart and you will figure it out.

Tell the old lady chill. I didn't even declare a major until junior year of college. I now have a good job at a good company. (I've been there 15 years.)
