Do you think that religious symbolism and christmas should be censored in the public schools the way it is?

im not religious but i dont think it should be censored. i mean when a kid wears or brings something. im not talking about having teacher led anything in the schools.

Update:

@robot, idk if its a federal law for all schools here in the states but it certainly happens. meaning a kid will get suspended or the school will ban certain shirts or christmas symbolism.

I don't think public schools should endorse religion but they should allow all their students to express themselves according to whatever religion they practice

"i mean when a kid wears or brings something"

    There's nothing stopping that.

@Seriously? theism is the antithesis of science. Theism should only be taught in a comparative RE class, you can put it in science if you find some evidence.

I was going by (my understanding of) US law. That's an overzealous interpretation of the separation of church and state thing.

But that's kids T-Shirt was purposely offensive. Technically he is legally allowed to wear it, and other kids should be allowed to wear "There probably is no God so don't worry*" T-shirts. But schools don't have the money to spend on legal advice, especially given the cuts, so better to play safe than sorry. You get similar over here, but generally over "health and safety concerns." Only "bad kids" schools tend to not have uniforms anyhows so this wouldn't come up.

*And imagine how long that would last?

Only in the United States public school system would it make sense to people to celebrate a holiday by forbidding anything to do with the holiday being used in the celebrations.

would you let politics into schools, election time kids wearing t-shirts of members from parties they support, it separates people and advertises unfairly. With great power comes great responsibility, being government politics, or religion, by giving social areas like schools the right to use symbolism, that's not really being responsible.

I don't approve of censorship in any form. I do think that christian holidays should have the same weight as the Jewish holidays or Hindu holidays. Yeah, that's right, don't close the school for ANY of them.

Not censored. But taught. Theism is part of history, science and culture. If we want more open-minded, well balanced, and educated people in this world, it would be necessary to grasp that there are many religions in the world.

I don't think it should be censored in the sense that I think kids should be able to say whatever they want about it or wear Christmas clothing if they want, but I don't think the school should endorse any religious holidays.

No I think that all religions should have the right to express their symbolisms assuming they aren't threatening to others.

I think forcing people to pay for these "schools" behind the threat of violence and kidnapping is a bigger problem than what goes on inside.

1st amendment. Kids can believe in what they want, just don't push it on anyone else. America can be so difficult when there is no need to be.
