Buying new car. How much can you haggle down 23.4k?

I plan on buying from a dealership a Mazda Mazda 3 Hatchback I touring. This is my first time buying a brand new car (Ive owned several cars, all bought used from car-max) and i am unsure how how to really haggle. I know this car is new so it will be much harder to really lower, but i am unsure of how to go about to do so. I do plan on putting down a large down-payment of 7,500. Will this help me lock a lower price? Any tips? What do you think would be a reasonable price to get it down to? The 23,400 is the total MSRP (with destination fee)

Update:

I touring Hatchback. Has the sunroof option along with the the Bose upgrade. Thanks for the help!

Not enough information. 2012? 2013? You are looking at a car with very little mark up. VERY little.

Add more info and I'll answer...I think I know what I'm talking about.

Must be an iTouring with a roof becuase they start at under 21K. Give more info and I'll help.

first you need to do some home work and that is use edmunds.com or kellybleubook.com ( these are free sites ) will give you the price you should pay for that car in the area you live in, take that price with you to dealer and let them do the talking , they should be very close to what price you got on line , if not tell them what you got and if they don't come close and don't want to work with you get up and leave, leaving works great they almost always call you back. if not go elsewhere,

dealers want to sell cars and the less you know the betetr they like it, be sure to type in all optios the mazda has on it becsuse it can drive the price higher than what you think.

I either go to the lot when they are closed to see what they have and wrtie the sticker price ( msrp ) and all options than get my priceing on line or many have websites to check their inverntory . the options are very important. also some states have doc fees ( advertising cost usually 250.00 ) and some have dealer prep, a rip off of 499.00 to 699.99 and that is to clean the car and take off all paper, wash and clean tires, if the dealer charges for this they won't take it off, just another way of making money from you, doesn't cost much to clean the car up.

You might be able to negotiate a savings up to $2000 off of MSRP but if you have a trade it will be offset. Remember you have to pay additional fees for taxes licensing and registration which will run about 10% of selling price. If it is a 2012 rather than 2013 there might be a manufacturer rebate so check out the Mazda web site. Good Luck

It depends. Go to a web site like Edmunds.com or TrueCar.com and do your price research. Find out what other people are paying. That will tell you what price you need to negotiate.

Also go to the Mazda company web site and see if there are any "current offers" for the Mazda3 that you want. There might be rebates or low-interest loan deals.

No, a cash down payment won't get you a better price.
