Mean or Median???????????????????
Mean or Median?????????????????
Hi, so this was one of my questions on my homework and would like to check if it was right.
So the question was something like this: "Jackie's test scores in one week were 80,90,100,20 and 95. Which would be a fairer representation of her scores, the median or the mean? I chose the mean but then found out that the median was higher than the mean. I don't know what to do. I need answers ASAP. Thanks!
The median would be higher. But I also wrote that the median wouldn't be fair because the students wouldn't be motivated to study. This is why I'm really confused, I'm not sure who's right. Some people say median while others say mean.

20 is an unusually low score which was probably not normal. Taking a mean brings it way down. The medium would be a better indication of the persons capabilities.

I would have said 'Mean' as well because it is the average of the set of numbers when the 'Median' is just the middle number!! ;) So yeah I think that the 'Mean' is a fairer representation of her scores!! :)
Hope that helped!! ;) x

this is more of a logical question rather than a mathematical question. It's the median because all of her grades are high except the 20 which is an outlier. choose the median.
