I love cats but I am allergic. Suggestions?

The last time that owned a cat, or should I say it owned me, was in 2005. I was so terribly allergic and couldn't breath. I ended up given my Nate to a family member.

I think that the last place that I rented had had a kitty in it because even with clean carpets, I was short of breath at home, but not at work or elsewhere.

After my Nate the Great, all I could do was feed the outdoor feral cats and they never wanted to come in the house.

Years ago, I was not allergic to cats and in fact had two housecats for years.

Does anyone know what's going on? Is there a truly hypoallergenic cat?

There is a hypoallergenic cat, but it is NOT hairless. It has long, fluffy hair. They say what actually causes the allergic reaction is not the hair, but a protein in the cat's saliva. Even hairless cats lick themselves. The Siberian breed of cat is said to be hypoallergenic. The protein in their saliva is different from that of other cats.

There are hypoallergenic cats but the issue is, it's not the same for everyone. My cat is hypoallergenic, though because of my severe allergies to cats, I still have a reaction to her. The only fully hypoallergenic cat would be a hairless cat. With hairless cats, you have to be very careful if you have a thing for cute. Try to go for muts. If it resembles a siamese cat, then you'll most likely find it ugly later on in it's life. You also have to be very careful when it comes to caring for the cat. Make sure it's skin isn't dry and scaly. You should also check it regularly for skin bumps or rashes. Never use human moisturizer on a cat. Just change the soap you use when cleaning the kitty.
