does anyone know how serious "black mold" is? Is it okay to just paint over it?

It's around the window over my bed. I've been feeling really sick, but when I stay at a friend's house, I feel better. Any suggestions?

I have run into this mold at a school I do maintenance for. Our "expert" said (and he IS trained) some people are very allergic to, even die from black mold. Others, like my self have no bad effects from it. I cleaned it up, and still have no ill effects.

What you can do? At least put a air mask on, and wipe the whole thing down with 50% bleach/water, twice, and let it dry. Touch up as needed. Then, paint over. If you have to, the more drastic solution is to have a contractor at great expense, seal the room, and discard every inch of sheet rock and replace with new wall covering. Or, after wiping down with the bleach, put a new layer of sheet rock, seal, and paint over the old rock.

You call someone to come in and test it to find out if it is toxic mold or not. Then you have to find out where the moisture that is allowing the mold to grow is coming from so you can fix that other wise it doesn't matter what you clean or paint with it will be back. Huge remodeling job in your future or just don't say anything, scrub the area well with a solution of T tree oil in water and after it dries paint then move out asap.

It's NOT "black mold". It's common mildew caused by humidity. Wipe it with bleach to kill it, scrub off the dead spores with a cleaner, prime the spot with a stain blocking primer, repaint, and lastly, the MOST important, lower the humidity, or you'll be doing it again in about a week

Simply kill the mold with bleach. And then make sure to caulk the window to ensure that the moisture is eliminated that is causing the mold. These long answers are unnecessary.

t is very serious. You must eliminate it all you can before you paint. You may have a very serious problem inside the wallboard. if it is a superficial problem, clean it off with bleach, let dry, and paint it over with a good base paint like KIlz...I also added a anti-fungal additive to the Kilz for a trouble spot I had next to the water heater before the mold got out-of -hand.
