Your initial reaction to the Red Sox hiring the Blue Jays' John Farrell as manager?

Do you think he'll succeed given the change in market?

There are no wrong answers, but I'm looking for insight.

I think he will do fine. I am confused why the rush I don't think there was a John Farrell stampede around the league. Look more see who might of been a better fit ? I wonder if Boston brass thinks all was AOK until that last month of 2011 ? Why else would you bring back the Pitching coach and promote him to Manager. Red Sox do fine as long as not expecting a contender in the brutal AL East till 2015.

What I've heard as far as compensation is the Jays get Aviles and the Sox get Farrell and Lind.

My reaction is hmm okay. He really isn't an outstanding manager, I don't know why they wanted him. It's not like he had anything much to work with in Toronto, but he did make weird decisions. I don't think there are many outstanding managers, so I wnder why a team would ever trade a player for a manager. But they did get Lind.

I'll be happy if the Jays sign Sandy Alomar Jr. or Sal Fasano to replace him. I like Aviles. The Jays have an annoying hole in the middle infield. David Cooper and Lind are the same person, so I won't miss him.

EDIT: Okay, Lind's not going anywhere. I like this just fine. Farrell is no Bobby Cox, I don't see this as a loss.

This is the first I have heard of this not really sure if he will do better then Bobby Valentine, only time will tell if he will have the better luck. And the Red Sox will or will not finish the 2013 season like they did with the 2012 season, but at least they didn't lose 100 games or more. From what I have seen so far he has only agreed to become the manger, when it was only in 2011 he left Boston to mange the Toronto Blue Jays. He may or may not I don't have a crystal ball in front of me. He is going to have to get better players then what Bobby Valentine had to work with, but we can only see.

He has a long road ahead of him. The Red Sox are at least a few years away from being competitive in the Eastern Division.

Everyone on the Sox wanted him there. Lester, Bucholz and other starters will do much better. I just wish the Jays got more than Aviles.
