Algebra word problem?

Oedipus beat Rex to the goal by 4000 feet. If Rex ran at 20 feet per second and Oedipus ran at 40 feet per second, what was the length of the race course?

    d=st

    d-4000=20t

    d=40t

    40t-4000=20t

    -4000=-20t

    200=t

    d=40(200)

    8000ft

    Oedipus ran 20 ft/sec faster than Rex so it would take him 200 secs to be 4000 feet ahead

    Oedipus 200 secs*40 = 8000 feet

    Rex 200 secs* 20 = 4000 feet

    Difference = 4000 feet
