Why do Jehovah Witnesses believe that Jesus was raised as a spirit?

When in John 2:19, Jesus Himself said that He would raise His own BODY?

Update:

Sunshine. Reread John 2:19 and don't blindly believe the lies of the Watch Tower. Find the truth for yourself.

Update 2:

Linda, why don't you tell us what you believe?

Update 3:

Good answer Macattak, but he not only had a body, but it was His own body.

seems like Jesus in Luke scared the disciples when he popped in after the Ressurection chaper 24; Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”

40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. [fn6] 41 But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Have you any food here?” 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. 43 And He took it and ate in their presence.

Jesus points to his flesh and bones. and eats fish and some honey comb. this body is different as walls did not stop him from entering yet he clearly declares he has a body.

    1 Corinthians 15:45, 1 Timothy 2:5-6, 1 Corinthians 15:35-42, 1 Peter 3:18, 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:24

John 2:20-22 - Here the Jews say that Jesus will raise it up in three days, not Jesus himself. The Jews have been known to falsely accuse Jesus and say things that almost sound reasonable, but need further examination of the scriptures to see the true meaning of what was written. Verse 21 says "But he was talking about the temple of his body." The Trinity doctrine that you and almost all of Christendom believe in is false and there are way too many scriptures to prove it. Here are some of them. It is your choice if you read them or not.

    John 14: 28

    John 8: 42

    Romans 15: 6

    John 1: 18

    John 1: 1, Revelation 19: 11-13, Psalms 110: 1, Isaiah 66: 1, Mark 14: 61-62

    Colossians 1: 13-17

    Psalms 90: 2

    John 5: 14-24

    John 12: 49-50

    John 11: 41-42

    John 6: 44, 57

    1 Corinthians 15: 27-28

    2 Peter 1:17-18

    Mark 13:32

    Matthew 24:36

    Matthew 27:54

    Jesus is not God.

The Witnesses will always have the truth and will always be able to reprove any false teachings from Christendom with the correct scriptures from the Bible. You might as well accept it or get with the program because the Jehovah's Witnesses are here to stay. Psalms 118:6 "Jehovah is on my side; I shall not fear. What can earthling man do to me?"

Source(s): Jehovah God, and Jehovah's Witnesses.

Jesus was raised up as a spirit but materialized human bodies so that the disciples could recognize him. If he took back his body that he had offered as a ransom for mankind what ransom would that be?

The physical body of Jesus Christ was not allowed to decay into dust as did the bodies of Moses and David, men who were used to foreshadow Christ. (De 34:5, 6; Ac 13:35, 36; 2:27, 31) When his disciples went to the tomb early on the first day of the week, Jesus’ body had disappeared, and the bandages with which his body had been wrapped were left in the tomb, his body doubtless having been disintegrated without passing through the process of decaying.—Joh 20:2-9; Lu 24:3-6.

After Jesus’ resurrection he appeared in different bodies. Mary mistook him for the gardener. (Joh 20:14, 15) He again appeared, entering a room with locked doors, having a body with wound marks. (Joh 20:24-29) Several times he manifested himself and was recognized, not by his appearance, but by his words and actions. (Lu 24:15, 16, 30, 31, 36-45; Mt 28:16-18) Once a miracle performed at his direction opened his disciples’ eyes to his identity. (Joh 21:4-7, 12) Jesus, having been resurrected as a spirit (1Pe 3:18), could materialize a body for the occasion as the angels did in past times, when they appeared as messengers. (Ge 18:2; 19:1, 12; Jos 5:13, 14; Jg 13:3, 6; Heb 13:2)

Jesus was made alive in the spirit.

    (1Pet 3:18 [NET])

Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit.

What is sown a natural body is raised a spiritual body. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

    1 Cor 15: 44-50

44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

45 So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living person”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

19In answer Jesus said to them:

“Break down this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

He materalized in human forms*, forms- more than once.

(the angels did this*, before the flood)

Did you never notice that his own disciples did not recognize him?

Physical bodies cannot enter into heaven-- a place of spiritual beings.

    _______________________________________________________________________________

Jesus was speaking using a hyperbole.

He obviously meant the Temple would no longer be useful.

The Law died when Jesus died.

The New Covenant was made before his trial,

and was 'sealed' upon his death.

And, the prophecies concerning him, fulfilled when Jehovah God resurrected him, 3 days later.

    His body =The temple.

Since, I am just speaking off the top of my head, allow me to get it from the Bible.

    Found It!:

    He is “a life-giving spirit.” ~1Cor 15:45

    1Cor 15:42-45

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised up in incorruption.

43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised up in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised up in power.

44 It is sown a physical body, it is raised up a spiritual body.

If there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual one.

45 It is even so written: “The first man Adam became a living soul.”

The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

Now, go check this same text, in your own Bible of choice.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

Because that is what the bible says about the resurrection of those that go to heaven.

    1 CORINTHIANS 15:45,

"it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body" - ASV

" It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body" KJV

You seem to be ADDING to scripture: In John 2:19 Jesus did not say anything about being raised from the dead in flesh and blood in fact the words flesh, blood or the word "physically" don't appear in that scripturea AT ALL. All John says is that Jesus refering to [his] "THIS body" it does not say it is refering to his "PHYSICAL body"; Jesus was in fact speaking about the body or temple that he would build made up of spirit begotten born again Christians.

Obviously they believe Jesus lied to his followers...

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

edit: it never ceases to amaze me how JW's can ignore the plain words of the bible when it differs from what the Watchtower teaches. To whom will they turn when Jesus says I never knew you? They will have no one to turn to but the Watchtower.

They believe what they are told to believe, no questions ask.
