DO YOU STILL THINK ROMNEY ISN'T LYING TO YOU?

The American people are forgiving- sometimes to a huge fault, and to our detriment. We like to believe that what want to believe is true, and often reject repeated proof that it is not. Such is the question about candidate Romney, and the conflicts between what he claims today and what he said yesterday. Last night, there were many Romney claims that Obama said conflict with the position he has advocated in the past. One of those was on the auto industry, which has recovered so well that it's stronger than ever and has paid back it's government loans with interest- literally, the government made a profit.

Obama said Romney previously stated he would let the auto industry go it alone and should get no bailout. Romney said that's not true. Was it true or not? Let's engage the Fact Checker.

The following article was written by Mitt Romney himself and published in the New York Times Nov 18 2008:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/19/opinion/19romney...

This is the first paragraph:

"IF General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.

Without that bailout, Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself. With it, the automakers will stay the course — the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority and never-ending job losses. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check."

Obama was correct- Romney had "Romnesia" again. Worse, if you read the article you can see that the results are directly the opposite of what Romney predicted they would be- it was his choice that would have destroyed the auto industry, and the Obama plan he fought against that saved it. That is a measure of his judgment as well as his honesty- or at least, his "memory of convenience".

DO YOU STILL THINK ROMNEY ISN'T LYING TO YOU?

Update:

Kelsee.... The problem is assumption without knowledge, making up facts so you won't have to actually think logically. I'm neither a democrat not a liberal- I'm an independent that was a republican all my life until the party lost it's moral compass. And as for poor.... I guess that depends on your perspective. Next to Romney, I am. I barely fall into the top 9%. Romney is way up there. But I made mine from scratch, he inherited a huge chunk of his.

Actually sure , it's unhappy to believe that he lies the best way he does on the grounds that the workplace he's walking for . Even sadder is the billions the remarkable % spend doing it . Would Carl Rove purchase a child a meal or a couple of sneakers ?

I agree that the hard-core will not listen- regardless of the truth. There will always be sheep.

Aside from the auto bailouts, consider the 47% statement, listed verbatim below. Then consider that he later dismissed this as an error after it became public and his popularity crashed. Then consider the excuse- "To elicit their contributions, Romney had to appeal to the expectations that the audience placed on him before they would essentially open their checkbooks." Apparently it's legitimate to tell them whatever they want to hear in order to get their money.

Here's exactly what he said "in error"... just a little slip of the tongue. The transcript:

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. And I mean, the president starts off with 48, 49, 48—he starts off with a huge number. These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn't connect. And he'll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean that's what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people—I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.“

Either he thinks half the nation are deadbeats that deserve nothing, or he thinks he can say whatever suits his purpose and blow it off later. Was the speech a lie, or was the "just an error" statement a lie? They can't both be true. Very convenient tactic in a campaign, but hardly a quality we can tolerate in a President. If you do- you get Richard Nixon. Again.

You quote the first paragraph but not the last. Romney was right and Obama actually did what Romney suggested AFTER cutting some pensions in half.

Romney said structured bankruptcy and gubmint guarantees.

"The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk. In a managed bankruptcy, the federal government would propel newly competitive and viable automakers, rather than seal their fate with a bailout check."

    Obama was wrong once again.

Actually fact check has already revealed that Obama was lying.

It isn't a lie if you believe it. Tell it often enough and people accept it. In the words of G.W. Bush, " You have to catapult the propaganda".

I guess it all depends on whether you buy into Obama's view or Romney's view. Romney has a lifetime full of success and proven results. Obama has 4 years of miserable failure. You choose!

The whole left right politics is all a lie. It's a one party system, an oligarchy.
