I highly suggest Ranger's Apprentice, Fablehaven, Harry Potter, Peter and The Starcatchers (pretty much Peter Pan. It's a good series.) Anything by Mary Downing Hahn (Stepping on the Cracks, The Old Willis place, Deep and Dark and Dangerous, Wait 'Till Helen Comes, etc.)
But it depends what genre you're looking for. :)
