It depends on the "subject's" psychological status, such as self-esteem, mental disorders, and reason for doing the task, among other factors. Say, if a mentally "well" person with positive esteem was failing a college class, negative stimuli (insults, shouting) may help them. Or if a person was in military boot camp, and was falling behind the rest of the group, negative stimuli from the drill instructor will motivate them. If a mentally challenged child was working on homework, and was having trouble, positive stimuli (calmness, compliments, patience, and things like that) would most likely motivate them.

An insult may be better.......because an insult I take it as being something that someone notices about you but it is wrong. Some people think that the slogan "you think you're to good" is a good thing to say but it is an insult. I think when people try to do the opposite, it's an insult. Like someone playing with your emotions because they know you are emotional...That's an insult. Like someone saying, you think you are too educated better than everyone else, that's an insult..flipping it inside out..some folks are good at disgusing it though...Like..."Let him do the project because he is smart"...That's an insult because that person is disguising it and they are waiting for someone to do better than you......people insult you all the time, you wont notice it unless you care or is paying attention.
