How to protect new lawn?

Around the beginning of the month (October) I spread some grass seed, covered it with a thin layer of soil, and then covered it with clear plastic (to act as a green house and to keep birds from getting to it). Now the seeds are germinating, but the nights are starting to get a bit cold (Seattle area). So my question is, should I leave the plastic sheeting on to help protect it, or would it be better to remove it?

    Remove the plastic.

  • It depends on how much your seedlings grew. Once the grass is ready to be cut leave the plastic off. Grass needs to go into natural hibernation so if you wait to long and it gets really cold you will throw the grass into shock. I would think by now your grass has grown enough to remove it.
