when did autumn 2012 start in the UK Wealther?

Weather-wise, it has been broadly split as between east and west.

To the east, it has been relatively mild and dry. However, a lot of rain earlier in the year has reduced crop yields considerably.

Here, in East Anglia we had a mild October until only just a week ago - then the Autumnal mists - and the forecast for this week-end is a SHARP drop in temperature. As ever, our variable weather makes it a major conversation point - more so recently because we've had extremes - ie record rain-falls, floods, etc.

This has applied especially to the west side of the UK - where some eg in Cumbria had only just recovered from the 2011 floods, to be hit yet again this year.

When I was young, we seemed to have the 4 identifiable 'seasons' - as others have defined calendar-wise - but for some years it seems to be more like 6 or 8. Bulbs 'normally' expected to sprout in say Feb/March have been 'shooting' 3, 4 or even 5 weeks earlier - so reference to 'seasons' has become increasingly irrelevant.

We've often had heavy rain in what used to be 'flaming June' - but hardly any 'April showers'.

All very odd !

Seemed to start a couple of weeks ago , when the leaves started falling of the trees.

I dont think we seemed to have an Autumn this year.Often perhaps the nicest season.We seem to have gone from summer to winter.
