Whats wrong with my horse?

My boy's rising 3 now and I've noticed for the past couple of weeks he's been turning round and scratching along his rib/flank area. he does this quite alot when 'm grooming him but I havnt noticed him do it in the field. He's passing droppings as usual and his tummy is rumbling like it should be which leads me to believe it isnt colic. I've looked into stomach ulcers which seems the more likely option, however he hasnt lost his appetite and his behavour hasnt changed at all. He is grazing in the field as per usual and is fed his small hard feed once a day and is maintaining weight nicely. I have NO idea what this could mean? Anybody else experienced anything like this?

are you deworming him properly? horses get a lot of worms from pasture grazing. best to have a vet check his poop and tell you if hes good

I agree with the others, if he only does this while your grooming him, he's probably telling you where it itches, or where it bothers him. If it irritates him when you groom him there, maybe he is sensitive to whatever your using to groom him. Either way he's trying to tell you something, so listen. Look at the way he moves and his body language when you do certain things. That will help alot if you can figure out what he thinks is good and what he thinks is bad.

Horses are a herd animal they thrive perfect while with different horses. Your horse is used to being in a herd so the shortcoming of different horses is better than in all probability a extensive element into your horses habit. He could bond with the goat, besides the incontrovertible fact that and it somewhat is uncommon yet I even have seen it while a horse is separated from yet another horse that is going to somewhat get unwell. As for his habit once you pass to get him and the different issues it basically feels like a coaching concern. once you pass get him from the sector take a bucket with little grain in it, basically a pair mouthfuls for him. in the past you be attentive to it you're able to have conditioned him to return to you quickly as you enter the sector. basically submit to in techniques whether you later don't have grain in a bucket confirm to grant him a handle once you get him into the barn. All in all i does no longer hassle yet approximately your horse. exchange into his perfect pal and that i think of lots of something of your concerns will come to a decision themselves. i wish this helps.

Maybe he itches? It is fall, and his winter coat is probably coming in. How does he act when you groom him in that area? I highly doubt it is a two week long colic .

He does this when you're grooming him.

He's telling you he's itchy and wants you to groom.him.HERE.

Next time he does this, scratch him, or curry him where he's pointing his nose. It'll be a great bonding experience.
