  • Why does my video do this??? (vid included)?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnNrCRlddKs

If anyone could tell me why my video is doing this I would really appreciate it! It plays fine straight from my laptop but when I view it on youtube and mobile youtube it goes all kind of pixelated? And not just your usual bad quality watch in HD stuff. None of my other videos have ever done this, its very frustrating!

  • I've had my boy 1 whole year! Our story so far?

So in December it will be 1 whole year that weve been together! The first of many I hope!

His owners don't know what they missed out on. I saved him from the meat wagon and this is our story.

Please watch it, it would mean a great deal to both of us. He's one VERY special boy.

  • Whats wrong with my horse?

My boy's rising 3 now and I've noticed for the past couple of weeks he's been turning round and scratching along his rib/flank area. he does this quite alot when 'm grooming him but I havnt noticed him do it in the field. He's passing droppings as usual and his tummy is rumbling like it should be which leads me to believe it isnt colic. I've looked into stomach ulcers which seems the more likely option, however he hasnt lost his appetite and his behavour hasnt changed at all. He is grazing in the field as per usual and is fed his small hard feed once a day and is maintaining weight nicely. I have NO idea what this could mean? Anybody else experienced anything like this?

  • For all you showing peoples!!!?

I'm off to my first inhand championships this winter with my boy. He's only 2 so were going in youngstock and coloured and spotted. My problem is he grows his winter woolies like nobodys business and looks like a hairball. Would I be allowed to hunter clip him so the judges can still see his muscle and shape nicely? His classes require him to be plaited and trimmed anyway but he would not look flashy at all in the ring in his winters!! Any advice/experience appreciated!

  • Has anyone had a horse that shivers when wet?

It's summer here in good old England and most days in the 20's but I've noticed recently whenever it rains my boy shivers? The vet said he's just cold, put a rug on him, so now he has to be dried off and have a rain sheet on, when the temp is in the 20's?? He's rising 3, has anyone else had a horse that does this?

  • Double bed for my boy?

Does anyone else use a double bed for their horses? I came accross it by accident when I was switching from straw to shavings but he had to come in so I just mixed a load if straw in and its incredible! Bed doesn't move, stays cleaner and dryer! And is much warmer, has anyone else ever used this method or a similar one?

I'd like to show my horse in the summer but what do you guys think of his confirmation? He's only 2 so still has a lot of growing left to do (as you will see) I'm aware that his forelegs are under him, can't have everything though can we?

And just for fun, what size do you think he is now? :)

  • Should i use boots for my horse?

I've got a young horse that has just started serious work. He's in training to be an event horse so lots of ground work, lateral, circles and also controlled hacking to build up his stamina. He's a very careful jumper but my yard owner suggested I get some boots for him to support his legs and help prevent knocks. I was looking at getting tendon and fetlock boots for his ground work, would these be ok for jumping too? He doesn't have any confirmation defects, except slight brushing at the back.he's a careful jumper but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thankss :-)

  • What to do with a breastplate?

Me and my friend have been arguing about this for days so I thought it was time to ask your opinion.

When I untack my horse, I detach my breastplate from the D rings on the saddle, unloop the girth and take it off over his head with the bridle. My friend however unbuckles hers at the shoulder, leaving it strapped to the saddle and takes the saddle and breastplate off all in one...? I think that's just a really complicated way but still :-/ what do you guys do?

  • What colour is my horse... seriously (pics included)?

He's only a baby so please don't judge, I just wanna know what colour he is. Obviously he's a blanket appaloosa I know that much but I've been told hes several things including liver chestnut, bay and "weird". He can't be chestnut because the definition of a chestnut horse is strictly no black hairs, and he has black in his mane and tail. But he can't be bay because his legs are the same colour as his body! I believe he will continue to change colour, he's only 21 months old and apparently appys do change up till 7, any suggestions?

  • My horse will NOT lunge?

I have a 2 year old appy gelding who just will not lunge. He stands there on the end of the line just looking at me, I've tried everything to get him to even walk but he just doesnt. I'm doing Monty Roberts Join up technique and while he's very joined up, he just won't lunge! Even when I crack the whip behind him (not on him) he doesnt bat an eyelid. What can I do?

  • Petal or rubber overreachers?

Ok, so my pony overreaches which has never been a problem as he didn't wear shoes.. well now he has a full set and is striking his front heels, so I need some overreachers. I was going to get rubber but someone at my yard said don't use rubber because if the horse treads on it, they don't break as easily as petal boots (the plastic ones). So now I don't know what to get, he's being broken to jump x country if it makes a difference? Any experiences of either are welcome :-)

  • 20 month colt, will he grow?

My colt is 20 months right now and he's 13hh. I was told he would make 14.2hh easily but I've read that horses do most of their growing at 1 - 1 1/2. He is very high at the back, if his withers come level he will be at least a hand taller but I'm worried he won't :/ Any experience with growing?

  • How long should i leave it.?

My horse has been gelded for 2 weeks now and is healing nicely, no major complications (touch wood) I really need to move him because the barn he's at are being really awkward about him and are not behaving with his best interests in mind, how long can I leave it before moving him? He could hack over to the new yard, take about 2 hours? Or in a box about 10/15 minutes?

  • Refuses to muck out her horses?

Ok, so the owner of my barn basically refuses to muck out her horses. She says shavings are expensive and only need to be truly mucked out once a week, the other times its only the poo thats taken out of the stalls. The horses come in in the morning around 7am and don't go back out till about 3pm so thats plenty of time for them to come in and wee, but still she leaves whats damp and gets out the poo. I was always taught that clean shavings were light, fluffy and white but hers are brown and just look dirty. Shavings are also heating so they DEFFO should not be left wet... what are your opinions on this? Is it a normal routine with shavings and should they be clean and white, or is it acceptable?

  • My horse is scaring me...?

He's usually fine but in the stable he suddenly has enough of whatever I'm doing and starts striking out with his back leg, its not an empty threat and he has actually kicked the wall, luckily I wasn't within reach! He follows me out in the field and is so well behaved but why does he suddenly do this? I believe he's testing me out as a leader and I know I should boss him and show him I'm a worthy leader but I'm scared that he won't back down and will attack me... I'm fine with the other horses, a slap on the shoulder and a bit of growling usually does the trick but I can't with my own boy :-(

  • How do they do it??? (20 characters)?

When I go to the yard in the morning I look very presentable. At the end of the day when I go home, My once beige jods are a mixture of poo green and mud brown, I've probably managed to get water all down my wellies, my feet are soaking and my face had all manner of things on it. I always feel scruffy because everyone else manages to keep themselves reasonably clean compared to me! Does anyone else have this trouble and if not, how do you manage to stay clean? I know horses are dirty but I feel as though people might look down on me because I get so into what I'm doing I don't really care about looking dirty :/
