Does the Federal Government have the consent of the governed?

Do you believe the following is true?

According to Rasmussen poling: "Even with Americans poised to pick a president and one-third of the nation’s senators, most voters continue to feel the federal government does not have the official approval of its citizenry. One of the central tenets of the Declaration of Independence is that “governments derive their only just powers from the consent of the governed,” but just 25% of Likely U.S. Voters think the federal government today has that consent. Sixty percent (60%) believe the federal government does not have the consent of the governed. Fifteen percent (15%) are not sure."

I believe there is truth in the numbers but unfortunately the "people" are not the direct source of consent in our "republican form of government". Consent was given by state governments and consent can only be withdrawn by state governments and the path provided by the Constitution is the Amendment process.

    1) The Declaration of Independence, while an important document, was written 13 years before the Consttution was ratified. It has nothing to do with how we are governed.

    2) We are also not governed by Rasmussen or any other polls.

    3) Our consent will be given on November 6. Regardless of the results, many will agree. Others will not. However, it is consent. That is how a constitutional republic works.
