Take a large pinch of flour and pack it onto the wound and hold it there with some pressure. That should stop the bleeding. After that, bandage it up until you can take him to the vet to have the nail removed.

Get a clean rag or paper towels and hold pressure on the nail. If someone can go to a pet store and buy Quick Stop powder, it has a numbing agent and will help stop the bleeding if you apply it to the broken areas.

At the vet hospital, the vet would take the nail off quickly (we'd use a muzzle probably) and then use special cautery sticks and the Qick Stop powder with pressure to stop the bleeding.

If your dog has trouble clotting after a minute or two, then you'll need to take a trip to the ER in your area.

Get a wash cloth and apply pressure, this could take a while for the bleeding to stop but just keep applying pressure. Then put some neosporin and wrap an ACE bandage, if you don't have one of those use a long piece of old towel and wrap it. Call your vet in the morning and they should be able to remove the nail all together very quickly and it will grow back with time. But this probably happened a while back and he may have caught it on something.

Help the dog to bandage the toe nail first.. Then bring it to the vet immediately.

Baking soda will help clot the blood. Wash and bandage after stopping the bleeding. He won't die of this I promise you, same as if you cut your own finger or toe.
