Simplify Rational Eq?

Please answer this question with a step by step guide on how you did it. 10pts will be given to the best explanation.

Simplify:

(4/((2(x+1)))-(2x-1)/(x^2-1)

This looks far nicer on wolfram:

    assuming expression is

    4/2/(x+1) - (2x-1)/(x^2-1)

    fully factor everything

    4/2(x+1) - (2x-1)/(x-1)(x+1)

NOTE that 2 goes into 2 once and into 4 twice

    2/(x+1) - (2x-1)/(x-1)(x+1)

NOTE that our LOWEST common denominator is (x-1)(x+1):

    (x-1)(2)/(x-1)(x+1) - (2x-1)/(x-1)(x+1)

    combine fractions

    [(x-1)(2) - (2x-1)] / (x-1)(x+1)

    (2x - 2 - 2x + 1) / (x-1)(x+1)

    -1 / (x-1)(x+1)

    can't simplify further, give restrictions
