Help with finding more articles?

I'm doing an essay on big words versus small words in an essay. All I'm finding are articles that condemn the use of big words in an essay and I need to find articles that are pro complex words.

Are there any specific articles debating both equally?

I have to tell you that in doing my searches I encountered much the same issue; virtually all the articles discussed how to simplify wording to make your essay more effective. However I believe that a case can (and perhaps even should) be made for occasions where bigger, more complex vocabulary is actually better. Unfortunately as I said I too had trouble finding arguments in the affirmative for this point.

Below are a couple of links for a discussion on the value of "precise language". The idea being that the more precise your language, the more effectively you can communicate your idea. I believe this can be extrapolated into an argument that bigger, more complex words (like extrapolated) which have very specific meanings can have distinct advantages over general terms.

I also found an article on "How to have a bigger vocabulary", and it provides a number of additional reasons for its advantages. In it's own words:

"Being erudite and eloquent is known to earn respect, recognition and higher grade point averages, lead to more promotions, higher pay and even elevated IQ scores. Those who can utilize words concisely and appropriately soon earn the confidence of those to whom they speak or write. In fact, people who make an obvious improvement in their vocabularies often experience dynamic vicissitude in their lives."

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

wow, you're right. every article i looked up for you said to use simple words. i guess you will have to find your own reasons for complex words. by the way, i prefer complex words so i don't feel the author is talking down to me.
