How to plan a Christmas dinner?
My boyfriend and I are having our parents over for Christmas dinner this year for the first time and we are both clueless as to what to consider. Our families don't really have any specific traditions, and there are no vegetarians.
Any suggestions would be awesome since we have absolutely no ideas.
It will be 7 people in total.

The key to planning a meal like Christmas is organisation.
for actual recipes I suggest the better homes and gardens website they have heaps.
1. decide on protein you will serve (Turkey, ham whatever)
2. Decide on sides
3. Decide on accompanyments ( sauces, breads, mustards etc)
4. Make a list of EVERYTHING you will need right down to salt and pepper.
5. Sort china, glasswear, serving wear and linen and buy if needed otherwise wash and press.
6. If moneys an issue start buying a few non perishable items each week up till Christmas.
7. Print out all the recipes you will need and put them in a binder together so its easy to access on the day.
8. Consider using disposable baking pans etc, it saves so much time.
9. Dont forget to buy drinks (including water, non alcholic and juice too) as well as ice
10. Decorate your house after giving it a huge clean
11. Cook as much as you can the day before to save on Christmas day stress.

Turkey is satisfactory for Christmas, Sharing a meal with family is the primary factor. You would put out some nuts, pretzels and chips for snacks before dinner however appetizers are not necessary. This 12 months i'm making chook breasts, mashed potatoes, peas and stuffing for Christmas dinner. My mother isn't joyful, however it's what we are able to manage to pay for. I haven't figured out dessert yet though. I admire your strategies lots, I feel You must drop the Salad and add the Yams to your hubby as others may just devour them too. For Dessert the pumpkin roll and a few cookies would be just right; with a contemporary pot of coffee or sizzling cocoa. Merry Christmas~

Set up the dinning area to look like christmas. (Christmas table cloth, tinsel and decorations). Cook dinner. This is for 7 people so you won't need a huge amount. Perhaps have two main dishes and two desserts. Perhaps a Ham and roast turkey served with roast vegies. For dessert a pavlova served with fruit salad and a cheese cake. Hope it turns out well.

My grandma does our Christmas dinner & everyone loves it. There's about 13 of us so this might work for you.
My grandma makes the turkey, mash patatos, & stuffing. She also gets the wine, beer & Soda.
Then she assigns the rest to us.
My parents- My dad makes Ham, Green Bean Cassarole, & Macaroni. My mom makes cake.
My uncle & his girlfriend- Makes cupcakes & brings like cheese.
My aunt & her husband - makes goodie bags full of candy.
The kids- we decorate the house, wash dishes & clean up.
I'm serious. We all have fun & work together, like a family should. We all rave about how amazing dinner was.
After we eat , we sit around & give eachother gifts & laugh & joke around. We're there from like 4 PM - 11 PM. And no one complains. My granny must be doing something right.(:

Possibilities:
Mains : Roast Lamb, Turkey, Ham, Pork.
Or you could make a few things like a batch of pasta, but make two sauces (like Alfredo, carbonara and/or bolognese sauce) and a beef lasagne and/or risotto (like chicken and mushroom or chicken and spinach)
Sides: Roast potatoes, roast pumpkin, steamed broccoli, cauliflower carrots, peas, corn. Cheese sauce on the side. Potato bake.
Desserts: Tiramisu, mud cake, cupcakes, cheesecake, hot chocolate brownies and ice cream and a liqueur drizzled on top.
Good new is; you can easily eat the leftovers the next day!
I've added some recipes below :)
You could also get a nice red table cloth, and a green runner to put in the middle. Red and Green are festive!
Good luck!
