Epson Stylus Photo RX595 Ink Question?

My friend just gave me this printer. I am a broke college student who can't afford to buy all the color cartridges. I just simply want to print black and white paper.. Nothing more. Would the printer work with just black ink? I read different things about this. Some say yes while some say no. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Both color and black Ink is required for new technology printers. Let say 2001 and up. If one is missing, it should not work. But you can buy a color ink just for a placeholder so that you can get the black work.

I think you need to buy the set of colour and black both to print. but there is a way. If after change the black ink if printer show the ink level full then no problem. you can only change the black cartridge. but if the ink level does not show the level full then you need a printer ink resetter to reset the ink level. go to the source website and read the printer & scanner section.

Till I think if you use original black ink cartridge then your printer should print.

WITH MOST PRINTERS, you are required to have ink in both the black and color ink cartridges in order to print in black as color ink is needed in this process. They work in conjunction with each other. So you will need to have the both color and black ink cartridges with ink, the same thing applies for color. It also is used as a lubricant that also helps to prevent print head damage.

In the printer driver, there is an option for "gray scale" printing. That

should use only the black cartridge , but you also will need a usable color cartridge installed for that option as some color ink is also used.
