The Ambassador Bridge, in continuous operation for decades already, breaks down the day after Election Day. The state lawmakers can't reach a 2/3 majority to build a new bridge so it has to wait until November 2013 for all the people in the state to vote for it and hopefully say that yeah, a new bridge is necessary. Maybe, just maybe, the Canadians will then still be willing to pay Michigan's half of it.
