We were bored one day so we combined Bernadette

She combined my Name & Middle name
Amy + Rosaria (Rose) = Ambrosia
We Were Bored Please Forgive Us Lmfao
I'm 20 years old & in Med School
My friend & I were in like 6th grade when we did this.
Some people are just rude & I can handle it.
& I'm not offended in anyway you shouldn't be either
I asked for your opinion & you gave me it
If someone doesn't like what they say EXACTLY it's their opinion !
BTW I was thinking of spelling it with two N's
Berlynn & who knows I might change my mind about this & pick another name when I'm actually expecting a baby girl/boy, because I'm still young c:

Ruby basically took the words right out of my mouth.
Bernadette is a gorgeous name and Lynn is mediocre, but combining them to make a mock up version of a place name is what's moronic. It's just plain foolish to not make the connection between Berlyn and the city Berlin, everyone will whether they express it or not. Not to mention the overwhelming fact that no matter what the spelling is the sound is ridiculously masculine. -ber-Lin-. I don't hear anything cute or feminine in that whatsoever.
It's totally cool if you like Berlyn/Berlin as a name I can see the appeal of it, but don't ignore the place connotation of it and then call others morons for recognizing it, that in itself is what's moronic.
Anyways, you asked for opinions, don't go getting all defencive when one is given that isn't exact agreement as you.

Berlyn looks like an illiterate version of Berlin which, as other users have stated, has an undesirable and equally obvious history to it. And I don't find it unique at all considering words with random 'lyns' tacked onto the ends seem rather popular amongst the chavs recently...

If you use a name that is commonly associated with a particular known person, thing or place, you are facing criticism. Obviously I am not the only one who thought of Berlin, Germany.

1) it's a particularly asinine misspelling of the city of Berlin
2) WHY would anyone name a child for a city with such a depressing history? I mean, seriously, you want to celebrate Hitler & his Nazis?
Using place names as human names is often very tacky since many clueless people choose the location of conception for the name to "commemorate" the sex act.
Even if that's not your intent, it's so commonplace that many people will assume this is the reason.
That's really nasty to do to a child.
EDIT:
Combo names aren't very attractive either...most of the time, they end up looking illiterate and/or stupid.
btw - how is it moronic to associate Berlyn with an assinine spelling of Berlin? It's quite a logical connection for any adult who is familiar with world history. Am I to assume you're too young to have taken such a class - or, perhaps you slept thru it?

I think it's pretty, and confident sounding. Also, there isn't only one Berlin. if your a fan of blackberry phones, they originated in Kitchener, which used to be called Berlin like the city in Germany so.....

It's a misspelling of Berlin, which has too much negative history to pass as an acceptable name. I don't think it's unique, I think it's a sad attempt at being unique which is not the same...

I agree with the other respondents who question misspelling a German city that has a murky history.
Later you said it's one of those combo names made up bcs you're bored.
Are you really old enough to be posting here?

I think it's actually rather adorable! I've never heard of it used as a name before (only Berlin Germany) but I think you should totally use it! (: It's unique which is what I love about it!
