My pit bull is in labor but holding off having puppies?

She has been in labor since 10am. She is holding off because she doesn't want to give birth in her Whelping box. She wants to go underneath our barn and have the puppies. She got under death there at 9am and we finally pulled her out. But she has her mind set on getting under the barn. Is there anything we can do? We have.even tried letting her pick the.spot in our house. But.she wants under the barn still.

Update:

NO, I will not let her have her pups under the barn! We will not be able to reach them and the ants will eat those pups. The ants will smell the blood and be all over them. We also have rats that go under there. Absolutley not.

Update 2:

Dakota Dog- this dog we had since 5 weeks old....we had to get her a home a year and a half ago....one day we saw her on the internet for sale...if the owner couldnt get her a home, she would be euthanized....we took her back and come to find out that she is pregnant too. We have only had her back for 2 and a half weeks. Do not judge the book by its cover...But thank you for your answer

Update 3:

Listen kunzy, the vet is closed today! just because she is a pit bull doesnt mean you have to get attitudy. we didnt even breed her!

Update 4:

Jessica g- thank you...aww that is so sad. Yeah we would not let her stay there....especially since it is starting to get cold here

Update 5:

Granny! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE RATS AND ANTS THAT ARE UNDER THAT BARN??? IF THE RATS DONT GET THEM THE ANTS WILL....THEY WILL BE ALL OVER THEM ONCE THEY SMELL THE BLOOD.

All I ask for are some wise answers please and thank you

Update 6:

Her whelping box is in my closet with the lights out. it has a door of course. she also does not want me to leave her side. so i have been with her just about the whole time

Put her in the whelping box and leave her alone for a little while. She needs to be where u can get to her and help her if needed. My friends dog had 3 puppies under their barn before we got to her and the puppies were almost dead. They were cold and stiff and buried in some of the dirt. We had to warm them up and get the dirt out of their mouths so they could breath. One of them later died but the other two made it.

She's been in labour a long time, normally you shouldn't leave it more that a few hours from the start of labour to the birth of the last pup.

Let her walk around a bit, it will bring the labour on and she might feel more comfortable than just being put somewhere she doesn't want to be, even if she can't whelp under the barn she might be more comfortable if you let her choose somewhere else.

The puppies and mother are at risk with the labour continuing this long. Even when she goes into full labour there is a good chance that she will be so exhausted she won't have the energy to continue.

Express some milk from her nipples, sounds weird but increases and strengthens contractions, let her walk around a bit. If she goes much longer you will have to seriously consider going to the vets because there could be another problem, not just her purposefully holding off. If a puppy's stuck then there is little chance of survival without immediate medical care.

my J.R.T i had when i was a kid labour was like this, she had a pup stuck and had to have an emergency c-section. We caught it early so all the other pups survived apart from the stuck one :( don't leave it too long if she's really getting uncomfortable, you can never really tell with dogs, they hide their pain so you will have to watch carefully for distress signal, take her temperature, watch her breathing and time contractions. After delivery make sure all placenta is delivered. Good luck, hope it goes ok!

Is her whelping box in a dark room with a door that can close? She might want some more quiet and privacy. :(

    Good luck.

A dog can put off labor for only so long. Force the dog to stay in her whelping box..she'll get used to it.

Take control of your dog..and congrats at bringing more pitbulls into this world.

Let her have her pups under the barn. You dont want her to be in labor too long. Just before the night come and get her and the pups.

U should let her have birth underneath the barn. She feels safe there

Let her have them where she has nested & where she wants to have her pups

If you force her, she may feel her litter is in harm & if she can't get them to a safe place, she may kill them to keep them safe.

Let her have them under the barn, they will be out when they get a bit older. Then you can socialize them.

You don't want an upset mama. Let her be.
