Nascar Fans, Controversial Question.?
Many of the followers of all three big league series, know Austin Dillon is on the rise to run in the Sprint Cup series i full time in 2014. Chances are he will replace Jeff Burton. BUT, one of the most Controversial stories behind this is Austin Dillon running the #3 on a Cup car. I know their are plenty of opinions out their already on this issue with many stories/articles on it, im just curious how people feel about it - If Austin Dillon were to run the #3 in the Cup series. ....My view- Everybody says it would be respectful of Dale Earnhardt if the #3 was never on the track again. Shouldn't it be the other way around and be respectful to him if it was on the track? You don't respect a loved ones passing by taking down all the pictures you have of them or keep their car garaged up forever because nobody else deserves to drive it. In other words, the #3 is just a number, people/racers will remember SR for who he was and what he did. Plus their are other numbers where a driver has died in a crash that still ran, #28 was driven by Kvapil back in 2008 for example. In all, respect Dale and what he did for the sport, but let Dillon run the #3.

If they retired the numbers of driver killed they'd have none left to choose from. I understand a lot of people liked Dale but a lot of people also liked Davey Allison,Tim Richmond, Neil Bonnett or Fireball etc. Dale's original number was 2 and not 3 and I don't think he sould be remembered for his number but his deeds. I do miss him but I also miss Tim and Davey and Neil too.

I would love to see the #3 back on the track as long as the car isnt black
yes it has been a long time and yes other #'s have not been used in a while agfter a drivers death..
I will always remember the #3 and Dale what he did
and racing the #3 is actually up to RCR racing and if Dale was alive he would of been retired or driving part time if that and he also woiuld love to see that #3 race aroud the track

I consider that in the course of the years NASCAR has sought approaches to make the races extra of a "exhibit" by using growing more parody within the cars. Doing so has made NASCAR "Winston Cup" racing the most fashionable "game" in america. When is the final time you saw a race won by a driver a full lap ahead of the competition like used to occur back within the day. But to claim that NACAR is by some means rigging races is ludicrous. The teams that are doing good in this new POS vehicle are the groups with the pleasant engineers and essentially the most cash..Bottom line. So go away the theories for the real conspiracies just like the assasinations of the 60's..Or the fee of fuel in these days!!

Dale Jr said it best it is just a number . Jr said it is like a bank you deposit history in to it. In the 3 car Dale Sr put 6 championships and about 70 wins so it would be interesting to see what Austin could do with it.

I disagree. It just wouldn't seem right, because there will never be another Dale Earnhardt, and it would just seem so weird seeing #3 going around the track.

Being a Nascar fan for over 40 years would have liked to see the # 3 retired after Dale's death. Yes, it is just a number however Dale made it famous. Many other sports retire numbers so why not Nascar.
Just my 2 cents.

Straight up - there's many stupid Nascar fans. It's just a number. No big deal when it gets used again. Now it might be a bit of a story if it was a black Goodwrench #3, but I don't see that happening. Time to move on people. How awesome will it be if the RCR #3 Chevrolet can find victory lane again?

It's a number. Junior Johnson won races with it before Earnhardt did. I don't really care if it's ever run again or not but I don't like retiring numbers, especially in a sport like NASCAR.

To me, it's just an identification number on the car and I don't care either way. I'm a Kenseth fan and all his fans seem upset about him losing the 17. So what, I say.

I honestly don't care, but then again, I hated Earnhardt with a passion. I'm not sure how his fans feel about it.
Regardless, though, if it were up to me, I would likely retire any driver's number who wrecked and died. If they die of anything other than racing, I say keep the number in the sport.
