Why are people so quick to get pissed off at me when I say I'm not voting?
This whole entire week everyone I've talked to has been going on and on and on about the election this, and the election that.
They always ask me "So who are you voting for?"
When I say "I'm not voting" they get REALLY pissed off and start listing reasons why I should vote, or they say I should stop being "apathetic".
They say "You know, a lot of people died so we could vote" or they say "You not voting is really insulting to people in countries who can't vote".
Why is everyone so forceful about this?
I'm not too lazy to vote, I just have better things to do with my life than get caught up in another ridiculous stress-fest.
I find voting stressful and obnoxious, so I don't do it.
And I'm not going to complain about any new policies or anything... I always take everything in stride, good and bad.
And it's not like I'm impeding on other people's ability vote. I'm just choosing not to vote myself.
And how the hell am I "insulting" anyone? If anyone takes offense to me not voting, that's their problem, not mine.
Why does this piss everyone off so much? I really don't get it!
To the people who are insulting me, you know you're just further proving my point, yes?
And how would you know what I do and do not find stressful?
I am naturally indecisive. Making decisions that could potentially have a big impact does indeed stress me out.
To the people who are answering sensibly, thank you.
However, I still don't understand why people have such moodswings over this. Nobody has really explained the reasoning...

I'm voting tomorrow, but I'm not casting a vote for President.
The reason that I'm not voting for President is because the Electoral College method of voting has made my vote in California totally meaningless. The ONLY states where votes for President really count are in the 8 or 9 so called "swing states."
Don't believe this? Then why did all of the candidates only campaign in those few states, while ignoring the rest of the country?
The Electoral College needs to be ended and the President should be determined by a straight popular vote that makes EVERY vote equally important.

Because their American and Americans have the freedom to vote instead of not having a say in who governers and controls the things that go on in the Country. So people get mad cuz it's an Americans right to vote, and they have freedom to choose, but its also ok if u don't vote you just don't get a say in what happens.

You've answered your own question. All those things people tell you about the men and women who died so that you can vote, and about most of the worlds' people not being able to vote, etc, etc, etc.
I'm not so sure those people are "insulted" that you're not voting so much as they thought you were smarter than that. While you don't complain about policies, everytime you start a sentence with "Somebody should ..." or "Why don't they ..." remember there's a better than even chance you're complaining about the government. And if you don't vote, you don't get to complain.

You think filling out a ballot is a stress fest? Wait till government has stripped you of all your rights. If you're content with not influencing the direction our government is headed, then you must be content with what becomes of it and what it does to those rights. That is going to be far more stressful.
I consider you a slave and a sheep if you'll never complain about any new policies. If you'll let the government take over more and more of your private life, without complaint, then I'll feel no sympathy for you when it does.

Just don't complain when someone's policies actually affects you.
----- Edit
I think after I posted this, you changed your details to say that you don't complain about policies - I'm not sure, but I don't remember reading that before - sorry if I'm wrong. I would believe you (and trust me, I'm not trying to insult you) if I had heard some never complain - except everyone I know has complained about something - from wanting to legalize pot to complaining about MRI wait times. Even if the government doesn't affect you, it might affect someone you love. Maybe your mother is wants a hip replacement but can't afford one. Also, I don't know if you care about environmental stuff, but if you care about a geese covered in oil, then you should vote. Pipelines are determined by the government.

People are indoctrinated from birth in government schools that your top civic duty is to vote.
I disagree with people who say you can't complain if you don't vote. I think everyone who votes is giving consent to this system and are agreeing to abide by the results. They should accept the results they get and shut up. I don't give my consent by voting. Therefore I'm under no obligation to stay mum about they results.

Better things to do? Please let me know what is more important than YOUR future? Im sorry if I sound to "forceful"? But everybody has a reason to vote and if you cant think of one than maybe you shouldnt. For the most part voting is quick and easy.

I hear you....you have a right to not vote....
another one that happens is when you tell people you are tired of both parties and will vote third party....they get mad too at that.....
