A Parliament for the US House of Representatives?
Lets face it- the Two Party System in America is a scam. And the president has far too much power. The potus is de facto the commander in chief, the head of state and the head of government. Imagine a House of Representatives Parliament using a system similar to the Netherlands of a single district. So if 13% voted for the Libertarian Party, there would be roughly 13% of the House for Libertarians and so on. The House would then elect a prime minister, who would share power with the President. Also, the 17th amendment would be repealed, and the Senators would be chosen by State Legislatures. This way, Senators would look after States Rights and not kowtow to corporations. The electoral college would remain the same, but the President would have much less power. The federal government as a whole would have less power, too. California and New England could peruse their dreams of European Style Socialism, and conservative States could remain American. If you didn't like your State you could work to change it or move to one that better suites you. State Politics would be what most people are concerned about. People wouldn't squabble over abortion and gay marriage on the national scale, and would work it out in their own State. The Federal Government would be far more democratic and also far more "Federal" instead of National.

Well put, I'm from the exact same veiwpoint, of the political spectrum. There are more than two colours, there are more than two stops on the demographic and political spectrum. So shouldn't everyone be represented directly.
My model is a Canadian one, but follows the same principles. It would solve problems like voter appathy, and the feeling that you are throwing your vote away, if you don't vote for the top two candidates.
The best way to implement it would be a paralel electronic election, held on a similar or coinciding date, and is not a hidden ballot, but everyvote would be accounted for blindly. Each voter has a confirmation number, and is given this once they are confirmed a real and seperate person. "Everyone" is on FB, and all the older people who aren't can vote the old way with more polling stations and more time to vote in the digital elections. By taking away the barriers to vote and run an election on-line would also be beneficial to the environment, would broaden the represented groups in the legislative body. And diversify who and where you can Run a campaign. Giving the power back to the people and using our technology to help us have our say!
Source(s): I'm a nerd and could go on. I've been through 7 campaigns with my father, including one against the prime minister in Canada. It was a by-Election after Stephen Harper won the leadership, he had to earn his seat. So we went down and got a couple-hundred, vs many thousand for him. What an experience though to see your dad put his money and time where his mouth is, lose and do it again! - leannLv 45 years ago
It's similar in that there is an higher residence, or Senate, which is elected alternatively of appointed like Lords. And there is a decrease house, or Representavies, which might be elected by using district, just like the house of Commons. Our electoral method was once a hybrid based on the British and Fredrich the nice, considering we had a an identical difficulty wherein the smaller states had been concerned about being subsumed through more populous ones, so they get a moderate expertise in that they all get the same quantity of Senators and the vote for President is by means of electors.

Or how about just pressuring Congress and the White House to follow the constitution? Need more folk like Ron Paul but for such a person to be elected the electorate need to wake up.

I like your idea but if we instituted direct democracy as well I think the people would finally be in control of their government once again.
