Seniors. Is it only me, or are fewer?

people wearing poppies this year?

I have just come home, thoroughly shagged out and totally broke after my fortnightly shopping trip, and noticed only about a dozen or so people wearing them, from among all the crowds I saw whilst I was out.

Furthermore, I noticed that it was many of OUR generation who were without poppies, the very generation I thought would be most likely to support the Royal British Legion.

I always buy two, one to wear and one to place on my front door. It's all I can do in remembrance of the many comrades I personally lost, as well as those who gave their lives in past and present conflicts worldwide.

Do people seem to be caring less these days, or is it just Bridlington?

I would do and want to buy a poppy and wear it, but there don't seem to be any poppy sellers in my city.

    Where have they all gone?

It could be that few care these days but, personally, I haven't seen a poppy on sale anywhere. There used to be umpteen people standing in shop doorways selling then. You would see them at the end of supermarket checkouts and on the counters of all the banks - but that has not been the case this year. If I see one for sale I'll buy it but haven't been able to do so yet. As you say, very few people have them and my experience might have been the experience of many others also, hence no poppies on show.

I think that someone must have changed the system of selling them this year and, if they have, it's backfired badly.

here the veterans greet you just outside of the grocery store, and they just smile and say hello, they don't attempt to give you a poppy first (so you'd have to pay for it, this is a marketing technique), they don't ask if you want to give...nothing. Today to get donations one has to do marketing, and lots of things are done on the internet where credit cards are used.

There was a guy sitting there for Lou Gherigs disease, saying nothing, just watching people go by. I tossed in my roll of quarters I just got from the bank, and caught myself saying that I don't carry money anymore. And so to respond to you, maybe that's the clue. And, more and more I hear people saying they've overdrafted their account...and usually that's done when emotions are more powerful than the laundry list of what you really need to buy...so people don't wish to overdraw their accounts.

My poppy gets attached to the mirror inside my car.

i have two dogs who wear poppies on there collars.even though there are dogs doing a good job in Afghanistan looking for bombs and other jobs. i was told by a lady that she would report me for making a mockery of the poppies by making the dogs wear them. as a ex national service man i could not think of a polite answer.

We used to buy poppies here in my city and they could be worn in the lapel or pinned to a garment, sad but they no longer sale them for remembrance. Seems once Uncle Sam here uses and abuses you are forgotten. It was a disgrace how many of our Viet Nam vets were treated, and I think many remember their treatment and work tirelessly to protect our currant soldiers from being treated the same.

I remember dead comrades by inviting their living spouse to my home for dinner. I don't have use for meaningless symbols when I can engage in meaningful behaviors.

they aren't being offered in my part of the state..

the veterans used to hand them out and you would give a donation.. it has been a couple years since they gave them out..

maybe it is a cost of living thing but i do miss them..so i send money through the mail to disabled veterans..

i miss being able to show i support my veterans
