My cat will not stop clawing! Help?
My cat claws everything! Sofa, chairs, beds, curtains, the carpet (which now has a hole in it) my feet, legs, arms, hands, and anything else he pleases. We have tried everything to get him to stop. squirting him with water, the 'yelp and stop playing' technique, even gently spatting him with an old fly-swatter (Rest assured, the fly swatter isn't used for bugs- it's so flimsy it won't kill a fly... Litterally! So it doesn't hurt him) Its just so frustrating that we've tried what feels like everything and he's disobedient right in front of us. He'll claw the sofa while we sit on it, if we try to stop him he claws us! We're at the point that we almost want to get ride of him because he is destroying our house and clawing/biting to the point of drawing blood almost daily. We thought about getting him de-clawed but i think it is cruel and the only place that will do anything like that charges $400 for it- needless to say we don't have the money.
Do not say i'm a bad owner. He has food, water, all the toys he could ever want. I play with him, and do everything i can to make him a happy, healthy cat. we can afford his shots, getting him fixed, and things like medication- just not $400 up front for a declawing. I've had many cats before and non have been like him- hes defiant ans plays way to rough, and when he doesn't get his way he'll throw a hissy fit and claw and bite harder. What can i do?

Your cat is most likely scratching furniture because cats have sent glands in the pads of thier feet so when the scratch something thier sent is released on that suffice. His is natural to all cats and will soon stop. You can get him a scratching post or something he can scratch but make sure that it doesn't look like anything else in your house. Why is he scratching YOU? Probably because he thinks you are just playing with him. Do not let him bite or scratch you or others, no exceptions. When you tell him to stop say it firmly but don't scare him. How old is he?
Hope this helps!! :)

Firstly, thank you for not dumping him or having him declawed! You sound like you've been patient and tried to do the right thing. I would invest in a carpeted cat tree with a sisal material scratching post and rub catnip into it. Your kitty sounds very energetic and the toys may not be the kind he needs. Try a laser pointer. My cat and dog love those! Also, putting scratching posts or floor scratchers in his major problem areas with catnip on them may help. You can put a cat tape product on your furniture and/or use a bitter apple or other deterrent spray to make those things no fun anymore. Also try an battery operated mouse, or one of those toys with the little ball in it to occupy him. My cat loves those cat cubes for hiding. Most likely, he's just obstinate like all cats, but more than most. If you do end up not being able to keep him, please don't take him to any shelter. A cat rescue organization doesn't euthanize animals and require an application as well as basic knowledge of the animal before they send them to a new home.

He's probably just anxious, try buying a cat play house where he can climb, scratch, etc. I personally would save up the money and have him declawed because if it's bad enough you will pay more than 400 dollars replacing everything

Its nails needs trimmed is why they do that. Get a clippers for animals at the pet department. If the claw is white dont cut down into the pink and if dark dont cut down to the light part or it hurts bad as if you cut your nails way to short.
All house cats needs a scratching post.

They're a little annoying because they fall off after a few weeks, but you just have to be diligent about it. It sounds like your cat is aggressive, so putting them on might be hard. It'll probably be a two person job. We have to wrap our cat up in a blanket like a burrito and do one paw at a time.

If you let the cat out they should take it out on trees etc.
