Soy formula should only be used if the baby has digestive problems or serious reflux caused by the milk protein based formulas (including after trying all the sensitive and prescription formulas)... Soy should only be given as a last resort after trial of all others, it is not the first attempt to correct any issues and should not be given under the illusion it is better for baby...

Soy is not the all out great food product it is marketed as... There are many people that are actually deathly allergic to soy... Soy formula is relatively a new fad and now that it's been long enough researchers are finding that early adolescents given soy formula as infants or excessive soy in early childhood are going through very early puberty and boys are developing breasts.. Soy creates estrogen in the body and that's why this is happening... It should be especially avoided in use of baby boys.... Unless medically necessary...

There is no reason to switch unless needed. Soy is for babies that can't tolerate milk based formula.

If you do need to switch because there are problems with your baby go on ahead and try, there may be constipation with the switch, that's normal unless it's excessive and lasts more than a week.

Check with the baby's doctor first.

Please discuss this with your child's physician. Many people who are intolerant of dairy have the same problems with soy. It does contain plant based estrogen, and for this reason is not used in some countries.
