What is a good college for someone seeking a psychology degree?

I'm a junior in high school and I know what I want to do, be a psychologist. I love everything about it but I was looking online for some good schools for a psychology degree and I was wondering if you knew any? I'd like to get a PH.D in it but it looks like the highest course goes up to masters, can someone explain this please too? Any information would be much appreciated, thank you!

To prepare for a career in psychology, you should take a broad overview of psychology courses and should also take a sampling of math and statistics courses.

To become a clinical psychologist, you will need to first complete your 4-year college degree and will then need to complete a graduate (doctoral) degree in clinical psychology. Doctoral programs in clinical psychology typically take 5-7 years to complete, after college. After completing your doctoral degree, you will then need to complete a year-long clinical supervised internship and will need to pass a state licensing exam before you will be able to work independently with patients.

The college that you go to for your 4-year undergraduate degree is not as important as the doctoral program you eventually attend. However, you should make sure that the college that you attend has an active psychology research department. This is very important because research is one of the most important factors in gaining admission to graduate school in psychology. During college, you should major in psychology and, if you want to be really competitive and make sure that you get into graduate school, you should also take high level statistics and neurobiology courses.

Don't be discouraged. Most people who eventually attend doctoral programs in clinical psychology need to take 2-3 years between college and graduate school to get the research experience that is necessary. Clinical PhD programs are harder to get into than medical school, so study hard and do not give up!
