Are Duty Free areas genuinely cheaper?

Has anyone bought things significantly cheaper at airports? I want to buy a Rolex and thinking of going to Dubai. Would it be worth my while?

I have noticed that the duty free shopping is not always cheaper than the high street or shopping mall. Take for instance, I was eyeing up some Raybans (no pun intended) and thought id buy them at the Airport - but guess what they were MORE expensive than Selfridges (the department store) and most of the Duty Free shades were technically a different serial number so they legitimise the high price in the tax free areas.

Other countries simply up the price, and so offset the tax.

I travel a lot. I fly internationally at least 7 times a year. I can tell you for a fact, that the so called "Duty Free" stores are seldom a good deal.

There is no good way to buy a Rolex for less unless you buy it used. That is how I bought mine.

there is not any such ingredient as accountability loose for the ecu traveler anymore, you pay the tax of the country you're in. accountability loose is purely attainable to those vacationing from or to non ecu countries and the old limits shop on with, ie 200 ciggies or 250 grammes of tobacco and a million litre of spirits etc. besides the shown fact that the tax levels for those products are decrease in Belgium, France or Germany and you will possibly be able to strengthen to you like into the united kingdom offering the C+E can not coach this is not to your own use. They do provide instruction quantities, yet those are purely 'regulations'.

Some airports have duty free shops but they make their prices expensive because there are no other shops nearby.

Why not order something online from a foreign company?

Yes there are scammers but if something goes wrong you can claim the money back if you use paypal, even if they have already withdrawn the money..

    From experience:

Things are always much more expensive at airports. Always.

    Doesn't everyone know this.

Some newbs get conned into thinking that no taxes is a big deal.

    They learn very quickly.
