Did any one of you read the poem 'the ballad of father gilligan'?

if you have then do u know the actual meaning of the poe. if you havent then u must read it. it is a great poem and the meaning is also really good.

    We can only do so much, being human. Sleep claimed him and someone died. This is what I think tho' it wouldn't have mattered anyway the man would have died. Poor Father Gilligan, thinking it was his fault.

    Did you read it in one of the Macmillan editions of English Poetry and Prose? I read it too, for college. I must confess, I wrote it quite charmingly in the exams, but I never meant a word.

    It is a poem which Yeats wrote while he was still a young man explaining how God takes care of us, even when we fail him.

    Later in life, Yeats became an occultist and an admirer of Mussolini (as well as having a very strange relationship with Iseult Gonne).

    Perhaps you do not consider it matters where Yeats' road of faith led him. Perhaps you will one day be lucky enough to arrive at the same goals yourself.
