Dinesh
Dinesh Sairam (20), student in Business Management, and an aspiring poet from the shady regions of southern India. My school of writing is Romanticism; Favorite genres are nature, love and memoir. Poetry, I believe, is a self-content search for beauty in the simplest aspect of things. I'm published in the poetry anthologies: Cafe Musings, No Apologies, Under the Willow Tree, Life is too short look for silver linings, The Animal Anthology Project: True Tails and Ode to Autumn. And featured in several poetry journals including Arizona State University's Journal, Carty's Poetry Journal and The Other Herald. Otherwise, a HUGE Michael Jackson fan, and a PC gamer. I have a love-hate relationship with my gym, but always love a good night's sleep and refreshing nature walks. Shortly, in a way of saying, I take life as it comes. Would you prefer Imagist poems over Romantic poems?
I've been reading up on Imagist poems recently and it has impressed me deeply. Poets like FS Flint, HD and Amy Lowell were instant favorites (WCW and Ezra Pound were already favorites). Here's one by WCW:
"This is just to say"
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
This is surprising to me, because I used to be a huge fan of Romanticism. I read PB Shelley and William Wordsworth almost everyday. For some of you, this may sound ridiculous, because everyone is some sort of -ist. But those of you who have been in my situation, I'd like some advice.

The default privacy of Facebook pages is Public and there's no visible option to edit it. How can I restrict people who haven't liked my page from viewing its contents?

"Apparitions"

Once again, being slave to the details, I'm not sure if the title should be "Apparitions" or "Apparition". This is troubling me more than it should.
3 AnswersPoetry8 years agoHow hard is it to write Song Lyrics, as opposed to writing Poetry?
An opportunity has come up where I'm supposed to write Song Lyrics for two to three tunes. How hard is it, especially after years of writing Poetry? Of course, I don't expect objective answers. Some tips would do just fine too.

"Deus ex Machina"

Deus ex Machina (Latin): "God from the Machine", is a literary device in which a seemingly unsolvable problem is solved out of the blue, as if by the act of God.

1 AnswerPoetry8 years agoIs literature your weapon?
If not, what else is it? This, in correspondence to the recent death of the great Chinua Achebe, who of course said "My weapon is literature".

I'm very sure everyone, well most of you, have come across the question, "Why do you love me?" What was your answer?
"Since you ask"
12 AnswersPoetry8 years agoWhat is your favorite abstract love poem?
I am never a big fan of abstraction, so I don't necessarily mean "abstract" here. What I do mean is, extended metaphors, personifications and such. What's your favorite love poem that is subtle (as in, indirect, complex) yet astounding? Triggered by the following poem:
You are not beautiful, exactly.
You are beautiful, inexactly.
You let a weed grow by the mulberry
and a mulberry grow by the house.
So close, in the personal quiet
of a windy night, it brushes the wall
and sweeps away the day till we sleep.
A child said it, and it seemed true:
"Things that are lost are all equal."
But it isn't true. If I lost you,
the air wouldn't move, nor the tree grow.
Someone would pull the weed, my flower.
The quiet wouldn't be yours. If I lost you,
I'd have to ask the grass to let me sleep.
- To Dorothy, Marvin Bell.

2 AnswersPoetry8 years agoHave you included your name in other countries' official tour guides?
This may very well be categorized as an immature question. I met a professional painter some time back. He told me that he'd registered his name with USA and UK tourist departments, while his pieces were in exhibitions there.
He recommended me to do the same. Is it possible, if so, what's the procedure? I'm assuming that a simple e-mail to the corresponding tourist department won't do.

7 AnswersPoetry8 years agoHow do you conclude that you've written a satisfactory poem?
When do you achieve satisfaction after writing a poem? Does it occur to your instantaneously, or do you wait for others' opinions?
For me, it happens after a day or two, when I could recall it from memory word for word.

1 AnswerPoetry8 years agoHas anyone from here been to PFFA?
Has anyone from here been to the Poetry free-for-all site. I've used it and I do enjoy the fact that I get long, constructive criticism on my works, but it seems like they pick out or sometimes, even make up negative remarks just because the site's motto is to 'slash your soul to ribbons'.
I'm all for good criticism, but has anyone here benefited by continuing down this path? Is PFFA worth it?
