Hi i am on simvastatin for high cholesterol and on the label it says avoid drinking grapefruit juice and i am wondering why Thanks
thanks stupid i know but i didn't notice the warning when i had them and just threw the leaflet out ha ha i will know better from now on

The leaflet in mine says:
'Taking Simvastatin with Grapefruit Juice'
'Grapefruit juice contains one or more components that alter the metabolism of some medications, including Simvastatin. Therefore, consuming grapefruit juice should be avoided as it could increase your risk of muscle damage.'
One of the 'rare' side effects listed is muscle disease presenting as pains and aches, tenderness, weakness or cramps.

it will increase the simvastatin level in the blood
