Why doesn't the GOP mention the "free stuff" and "gifts" Republican voters get?

There are plenty of reliable Republicans who get heaping piles of government goodies," says Noam Scheiber at The New Republic. Seniors get Medicare, veterans get VA benefits, and corporations "gorge on lavish subsidies" — all with a thumbs-up from Romney. "Believe it or not, there are even wealthy financiers out there who don't pay income taxes on their loot and who deduct the mortgage interest on their vacation homes. (Not that I have anyone specific in mind.)" And don't forget, "Romney himself promised an exceedingly large 'gift' to elderly Republican voters: restoring $718 billion worth of savings from Medicare that Obama had achieved through the Affordable Care Act."

And most of all, when we're talking about "free stuff," who gets more of it than elected politicians in Washington? Even the ones who claim to hate "big government"!!

Where was I,when all those gifts were been given?

I worked 46 years for the same employer, just retired and started to get my social security benefits,is that what the Reps are talking about?

Gifts are the tax loopholes for the rich, and they are crying about my social security check?

Seeing that a colossal majority of the minority voted for him. And which you can google any chart. They all exhibit minorities are the predominant ones on benefits. Also he got 33+ % of the white vote. If the these whites had not voted for him he would have lost. Of path you say " the usa is becoming more liberal" it's. Nevertheless jobs have been more fundamental to Romney than whatever. Obama focused quite a bit on gays, the environment and so forth. And that is what got him the win

There is no free stuff and you are right the biggest recipients of government welfare are corporations and wealthy individuals who are able to shelter their tax liability unlike modest and working class people.

    This question is laughable.

just about everything you mention is either people's money coming back to them (medicare) or people being able to keep their OWN money (mortgage deductions)...

...so once again, how is it that you justify saying that me being allowed to keep mine means that I'm actually stealing from you?

...in a non-8th grade manner that is...

Yeah, but they're not drawing Medicare either, and their BUSINESSES are what's keeping it afloat.

My grandmother's ranch was continuing to run long after she was put in a rest home. When her foreman got too old to keep running a few head of cattle just to keep her bill paid, my mom tried to put her on Medicare. She paid into it from the '40s all the way up to the exact day she tried to get it, roughly a decade after she went into the rest home, and she owned too much property to qualify. So they were taking her money and she never saw a dime of it in return.

NO, IT WASN'T MEDICAID, IT WAS MEDICARE. I WAS THERE IN THE OFFICE WHILE WE WERE BEING TOLD ALL THIS, AND I DID NOT HAVE DEMENTIA LIKE MY GRANDMOTHER DID. Take your Medicare and shove it.

No one's against seniors getting retirement and healthcare; although the system is nearly bankrupt and needs to be saved. What they're against is able bodied younger people getting free stuff. Conservatives are against corporate subsidies and Romney mentioned the oil companies specifically in the debates. That's what he wanted to do lower the tax rate a little and eliminate subsidies and loopholes.

PS: The 718 billion was not savings to medicare it was a paycut to the providers (ie the doctors) who then stated that they would cease seeing the elderly as they'd be working at a loss. It was a massacre to the program. Also Medicare Advantage would have been eliminated, not saving but putting the cost onto the senior.

Tecolote: It sounds like she was trying to get into the program outside the enrollment period. Which is extremely hard unless you can prove you had private insurance up until that date.

I no longer call myself a Republican for exactly this reason. MOST of this needs to go away - especially the perks for politicians.
