Can anybody break down the differences between the Maronite faith and Roman Catholicism?

So far, I understand that Maronite is considered Catholic and that it was founded in Lebanon. Also, there was something about the Maronites having a different system of leadership compared to the Roman Catholic faith, as well as their religions being founded by two different people. If somebody could better explain the differences to me in a way that's simple to understand, that would be great! I'm trying to gather all the information I can possibly for my Compare/Contrast essay, so any scholarly source(as in from a book or article in Google Scholar) would be greatly appreciated! If none can be found, I'm open to non-scholarly sources as well.

Here is a link to the Catholic Encyclopedia that will answer your questions. The Maronite Church is one of the Rites of the Catholic Church. Basically they share the same apostolic succession of the Catholic Church and are a part of the Church and loyal to the Pope with their own Patriarch.

    .

The Maronites (Arabic: الموارنة‎; al-mawārinah, Syriac: ܡܪ̈ܘܢܝܐ; maronāyé) are a Christian ethnoreligious group in the Levant. They derive their name from the Syriac saint Mar Maron whose followers moved to Mount Lebanon from northern Syria establishing the Maronite Church.

Maronites were able to maintain an independent status in Mount Lebanon and its coastline after the Arab Islamic conquest, maintaining their religion and language until the 13th century.

The Ottoman Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate and later the Republic of Lebanon were created under the auspice of European powers with the Maronites as their main ethnic component. Mass immigration to the Americas at the wake of the 20th century and the Lebanese Civil War decreased their numbers greatly in the Levant. Maronites today form more than one quarter of the total population in the country of Lebanon. Oral traditions impose that each President of Lebanon be of Maronite faith.

Seems like it would take a person with a degree in religious studies to answer this. But it's an interesting question. I look forward to seeing answers.

Here is the Wikipedia link. I'm sure you have that already.

The agreement that Lebanese president must be Maronite is very fascinating.
