Bakers Union costs 18,000 jobs.?
Hostess has been in bankruptcy negotiations for nearly 2 years trying to stay in business. They got concessions from all their creditors and union groups...except the Bakers Union. They said without concessions from the Bakers Union they could not stay in business. Still the union would not give any at all on the 2 biggest issues.
Hostess had 2 big issues that the union refused to make any concessions on. They refused to accept any of the increased cost in health insurance created by Obama Care, and they refused to cover any of the ever-increasing cost of retirement benefits.
Now they (Hostess) has closed their doors and are liquidating their assets. This is a move that will cost their stockholders millions, and forced the layoff of 18,000 employees, mostly union members.
So I ask, do you support the choices that the union made on behalf of their employees?
Does it seem to you that the Union made choices that benefit their employees best?
Did the union do a decent job of representing their employees?
Both sides agreed that one of the big issues is the higher cost of health care brought about by Obama care. So do you blame Obama for the loss of these jobs?
Betty..,.watch the news. The fact is that both sides have already agreed on what caused the increase in costs. THEY SAID THAT, not me. I can EASILY prove what they said. Just watch ANY of the major business news networks! So what are you asking, that I prove the union's opinion is correct?
@bigvo.. since it is an industry that currently has excess manufacturing capacity, I wonder if the union screwed over this group of employees just to benefit their other members.

Whether you support them or not is not the main issue. The biggest concern was it really worth risking the job at this time. Unemployment claims skyrocketed last month, companies are laying off and cutting hours because of Obamacare, and that particular line of work does not have a shortage of workers.

First, what will the potheads do without twinkies?!!
Second, It's kind of amazing, yet an old story recreated over and over again, that the unions act like leeches and kill their host. Wasn't that the problem with General Motors?
Third, the union bosses all have their golden parachutes and the "working man" is just cannon fodder.
Fourth, while I think Obamacare will prove to be a complete disaster and job killer, it is a fact that health care costs have gotten completely out of hand.
Consider: in the non-union employer/employee relationship, the cost of health insurance is about $15,000 per year for each employee. The average employee pays just above $4,000 and the employer pays just over $10,000. Just that alone makes an employer very hesitant to hire anyone he doesn't have to.
This is why the traditional 40 hour a week job is getting cut down to 30 hours, so benefits are not required by law. This is supposed to help the underemployment situation?
So yes, all the Forces in the universe (unions and government) seem to be conspiring to shoot the American economy in the foot. I can't believe people, highly paid World Class Big Dogs can be so stupid.
Wouldn't this be a good time to be a "prepper"? To quote Sarah Connor in the Terminator movie(s) "There's a storm coming".

Well as you can see what was predicted is in fact occurring. When Obama took office he did nothing for employment, but force the passing of the bill he believed would keep in the history books to break America.
But what is worse is those people who put him back into office you knew what you had done the first four years and they voted him back in. So who really is here to blame Obama, who told you what he would do, Them media who covered everything up to help him or those to lazy to check out the facts I blame the media they were to be the watch dogs it is the very reason the 1st amendment was passed but they have failed us.

Thats the UNION at its finest. Rather have a company shutdown and unemployed people than give up union benefits. Unions are like communists, they only work well for the people at the top.

The idea that a private company has to operate in the black in order to stay in business is a concept that the Left has never understood and never will
