Is it safe to disable anti-virus?

I read this note:

Please note, depending on your settings, you may have to temporarily disable your antivirus software.

I am trying to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, because most of the videos on the MSN webpage require it.

You should disable it only for a special reason like it is interfering with a program that you are trying to install. However, you better be sure that the program is clean and that you reactivate your AV you have attained your objectives.

Websites that you trust sometimes get infected by a virus or trojan or malware. It's never 100% safe.

Personally I wouldn't disable my av for any program.

You may have hidden malicous files stored somewhere on the local disk, so I don't think it would a good idea to disable the av even if you aren't connected to the internet. Make sure your av is running 24/7.

Sounds odd to me. I've never had to disable my AV to download Flash Player or any Adobe update. Are you downloading from the Adobe site?

If you are sure what sites your are browsing it's save for a while to disable it but it's not commonly asked to do so, so take care.Sometimes is better to lower the setting than switch it off at all.Make sure to re set your setting after your download.Good luck.

You do not have to disable your anti-virus(99% of a time) but you do have to close all the internet browsers during the installation.

Disabling anti-virus for 1-2 minutes won't hurt you,I assume you have windows firewall running on the background.

If you are absolutely sure you are downloading Adobe and ONLY Adobe (from a trusted site, with trusted files) then it is safe to temporarily disable your antivirus. As soon as the download is complete, turn the antivirus back on.

DO NOT check your email during this time, or fiddle around on the web (including facebook, twitter, etc)

    Should be fine!

It is usually quite safe to disable your antivirus for a specific download but be sure to re-enable it immediately afterwards.
