Joining the Navy SEALs with owed debt?
I was on the way to a SEAL challenge contract about 4 months ago, the day before i went to MEPS my recruiter asked if i owe any sort of money. I told her that i had 2 negative bank accounts, a repossession, and back taxes( only for a year). I was going through very tough times and was barely able to eat each night. She said that i have to start paying each debt back and get a letter from each creditor saying that i am making consistent payments for at least a month or two. I now have a decent paying job and a very loving and helpful family. I only recently got the job so Im beginning to pay each monthly and am able to settle the overdrawn accounts. pardon the rambling, i wanted to paint a picture of my situation clearly. My question is, is my recruiter giving me wrong information, stating that with qualifying ASVAB and PST scores, I will Be able to get a SEAL challenge contract so long as i am making an effort to repay my debts? or will this stop me from getting a security clearance? I have no misdemeanor or criminal record and am currently attending a local university. Thank You for your replies and PLEASE excuse the ramble, Your time and knowledge is a much appreciated gift.

I don't know how SEAL contract's operate, but as for debt problems.. that goes for any branch while trying to join. Obviously no one is going to want a person who has a debt that they can't pay off which is why you need to show them that you have a plan to solve your problem. Once your back on your feet, you should have no issues.
