Immiticide treatment side effects?

I am a student studying Veterinary Technology. One of my classes at the moment is Pharmacology. I looked up Immiticide - adverse side effects in my Applied Pharmacology for the Veterinary Technician class book. It says, "Some dogs experience reactions such as pain, swelling and tenderness at the injection site. Firm nodules may form at the injection site. Coughing, gagging, depression, lethargy, anorexia fever, lung congestion and vomiting are common reactions." I have not been through this myself. I have only been in a clinic setting for a year or so and fortunately have not had to aid in the treatment of heartworm disease. I am very sorry this is something you and your dog have to go through. +++ I talked to my instructor who is a licensed veterinarian. She of course can't give me any real information without actually seeing the animal, but she said little dots that look almost like freckles sounds like Petechia. I did not do much research thus far to see if this is normal with immiticide treatment.

Unfortunately we have a dog that is being treated for heartworms. He had one shot of Immiticide a month ago, and a back to back dose this past Wed and Thurs. Last night he developed a sudden outbreak of whelps on the front of his body and some red splotches on his inner thighs. I called our vet...

She may have had a stroke from the treatment. Did they at least give her a couple of weeks of ivermectin first to lighten the load before treatment?
